Big Basin Camp & Hike To-The-Sea

Housing redwoods taller than the statue of Liberty and 50 ft. around, Big Basin shines as the state's oldest park (est. 1902!). It contains the largest continuous stand of redwoods--and your team gets to hike through it to the pacific ocean! Some redwoods boast an age of 2500 and camping underneath them is truly a singular experience, Campfire songs will be provided by your leaders. Stories and jokes around the campfire encouraged! Please bring tents, sleeping pads and sleeping bags or rent them for a fee.

Day 1

Meet in the morning at Henry Cowell State Park (or other designated meeting spot) for orientation, introductions and logistics. We'll take a short hike beneath the giant redwoods then savor a delicious lunch at the Cremer House in Felton, an American Alehouse.

Shuttle to our camping spot in Big Basin (40 mins) to set up camp, cook dinner and campfire shenanigans. Sleep under the stars...

Day 2

7am start. Coffee, breakfast and hike moslty downhill for 10.5 miles. The trail offers spectacular views and waterfalls all the way to the beach.

• If time, stop for a cold beer at the Highway 1 brewery then shuttle back to Henry Cowell or designated drop-off place.

What Should I Pack?

Our professional guides will walk you through all the preparations for this hike. Depending on skill level, we recommend backpack size, sleeping bag/pad size & warmth. Make sure you have comfortable shoes, at least 3 pairs of socks, layers, hat/sunscreen and rain jacket in case of weather.

What's Included?

Effortless pre-trip planning including logistics & route. We take care of all permits and camping fees. Food included: All snacks, dinner on day 1, breakfast & lunch on day 2. Local transportation and both guides on trail. Cremer House lunch and after-hike beer not included.

Is the hike hard?

No. If you've never hiked 10 miles before, this is great hike to start. We certainly recommend training by hiking in the woods with weight for this trip, but it's 10 miles of mostly downhill. The hike has some elevation gain, but mostly it's elevation loss so take care of those knees!
